`Say Goodnight to the Moon': A Colorful Adventure Story

SEATTLE, Nov. 1, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- People say you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your relatives. You often can't pick situations where you find yourself. Thankfully for Nellie, her family and her adventures make for a colorful and zesty story which permeates "Say Goodnight to the Moon" (available from 1stBooks Library).

Author Patricia Geister tells a tale that spans Nellie's life -- from her rough-and-tumble beginnings to her ultimate happy ending. Along the way, Geister's heroine finds herself in the midst of some interesting adventures that keep her life free from boredom.

Nellie hails from a family that includes native Oklahoma Indians, itinerant cowboys, a hyper-strict grandmother, a prison executioner, a lawman, and several failed moonshine runners. She endured the Dust Bowl era, the Depression, various and sundry husbands, and "history's weirdest daughter."

Her early adult life found Nellie and one of her many husbands involved in the real estate business while trying to fight off local goons. Traveling wasn't any more peaceful for Nellie than anything else. Her trip to California exposed her to bandits, and Seattle almost killed her. She played the horses, she buried a husband's teeth under a cherry tree, and her Prince Charming almost didn't find her. In the end, however, Nellie's life was fun, wacky and sometimes painful, but never dull.

Patricia J. Geister's articles have appeared in local newspapers and national magazines. Her writings tend towards humor and nostalgia, but also feature life's more serious episodes. She and her mate, affectionately dubbed "St. Rupert the Husband," enjoy exploring the best tourist spots. Ms. Geister lives in Seattle, Wash.
