The Stories That Live After Them: Documenting Fantastic Journeys Keeps the Memories Alive

DIAMOND SPRINGS, Calif., Nov. 1, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Do you remember the details of the grand adventures of your life? While we all too often rely on our brains to keep track of our memories for us, what happens when something new and exciting enters our life? Our brain begins to forget the details of old memories and replaces them with new ones. Think about it... Do you really remember what you wore to kindergarten?

In order to keep the memories fresh, author Charles Seaton has put on paper two very different memories. "After Conestoga Wagons" and "A Peruvian Odyssey" (now available from 1stBooks Library) is a collection of two very different true narratives.

The first story, "A Peruvian Odyssey," details the journey that Charles, his wife, Jinny, and some of their friends and coworkers embarked upon. Traveling across the waters and through the air, the weary travelers find themselves on one adventure after another as they work their way through the countryside of Peru.

As they return via train from the ancient, fabled city of Machu Picchu, they are startled when the train suddenly stops. What they soon discover is that a young boy has been struck, his ribs now crushed in. They can do nothing but watch helplessly as the young boy is brought into their car, laid in the aisle and left to die.

Also based on true events, "After Conestoga Wagons" is the story of Jinny's relatives in the late 19th century. The year is 1894 and tragedy strikes a small, unsuspecting community called "The Hollow." An eighteen-year-old girl is murdered by a known part-time transient man and suspected of possible rape. The death of this innocent soul forever changes the lives of the people in the community.

Charles Seaton was born in Sacramento, Calif. His love for writing began when he began setting lead type in a local print shop in Berkeley.
