Sailing in the Storm - A Moving Love Story Between an Orphan and a Sea Captain

SOUND BEACH, N.Y., Nov. 6, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- He gave her shelter. She gave him a life beyond his solitary existence on the sea. "Beyond Ambergris" (now available through 1stBooks Library), by Carol Bluni, is the extraordinary bond that develops between an orphaned girl and a sea captain. Friendship turns to love and love leads to marriage. But that's only the beginning.

The story starts in 1857, in a small town in New England. Nikki, a young injured woman, seeks the help of a stranger, 33-year-old Jonathan Brewster, on a foggy night. He brings her to his home and decides to take care of her. Neither deprivation nor homelessness could corrupt Nikki's wisdom, esteem and faith. Brewster, the guardian, eventually depends on her strength of character to see him through the days. They become friends and later fall in love.

Before Nikki, life for Brewster had been a calm, glassy sea. Through her, the sea and the sky come to life, mirroring the great passion swirling within him. "You're a storm brewing. Wind and waves, rain and hail ... thunder and lightning, knocking me off my feet," Brewster tells Nikki. "Beyond Ambergris" is not only about Nikki's and Brewster's love and passion for each other, Bluni shows how faith in God helps the couple withstand difficulties and how their spiritual bond deepens their relationship.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Carol Bluni has four children, five grandchildren, and a master's degree in Education. She has been an elementary school teacher on Long Island for nearly 25 years. She started writing "Beyond Ambergris" more than 20 years ago. When her marriage ended in divorce, she moved to another residence, stopped writing, and kept the manuscript in a box for 17 years. One Ash Wednesday, she rediscovered her manuscript while cleaning up her boxes. Her inspiration to finish the book returned. Teaching first graders by day and writing by night was tiring but quite fulfilling for Bluni. She currently lives in Sound Beach, N.Y.
