Northrop Grumman Corporation Receives Air Traffic Control Association Industrial Award

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded the Air Traffic Control Association's Industrial Award for the company's outstanding contribution to the safety, quality and efficiency of air traffic control systems.

With more than 40 years of continuous support to U.S. and international air traffic control communities, Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems and Information Technology (IT) sectors are responsible for many of the current surveillance radars and communications switching systems serving controllers and pilots today. Additionally, the company provides some software improvements and engineering services that help sustain the infrastructure.

"We are honored to accept this award on behalf of Northrop Grumman's civil aviation team," said Denis Brown, vice president, Civil Security and Public Safety, Government Solutions, Northrop Grumman IT. "The company's expertise in air traffic control management solutions contributes to the success of air traffic control systems."

"This award, presented by the ATC industry's key professional organization, acknowledges Northrop Grumman's continued dedication to improving this country's air traffic infrastructure," said Dave Wolt, director of Northrop Grumman Denro Systems. "The recognition of our continuous effort to improve air traffic safety is indeed an honor."

Northrop Grumman radars, navigation aids, communications and switching systems help pilots and air traffic controllers provide reliable, efficient and safe air travel in the U.S. and 23 countries. The company also supports many of the other automation intensive systems that air traffic controllers and pilots continuously rely upon such as controller decision aids associated with the Federal Aviation Administration Free Flight Program.

The evolution of global air traffic control has benefited from the contributions of Northrop Grumman and its legacy companies, including Westinghouse Electric, Norden Systems, Grumman Aviation, Park Air Electronics and Navia Aviation.
