Understanding the Word of God; New Book Explains: God Reveals Himself in Many Different Ways

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 7, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ron Brown grew up poor, with a father who was always gone. He drew inspiration and strength from his caring grandparents, who were devoted to reading the Bible, and his strong mother who instilled in him an unshakable faith in God in times of hardship. Rasied on the word of God, Brown credits the Bible for helping him remain a decent person despite the difficulties of his childhood. Together with his wife, Evelyn, Brown has written "God's Do's and Don'ts for Eternal Life" (now available through 1stBooks Library). Based on the scriptures, it shows readers how the Bible has touched the Browns and shown them what it takes to live a contented life.

"God's Do's and Don'ts" may seem like a recitation of the Ten Commandments, but it is really a composition about love. The Browns discuss the grace of love between a couple: "how a man shall love his wife as he loves himself." It speaks about the great Christian aspiration of loving one's neighbor as God loves His people. It looks into Jesus' ultimate sacrifice -- for the spiritual salvation of his people -- as the greatest act of kindness and love.

The Browns also show readers how important a loving family is for salvation from sin and despair. Whenever Ron's family ran out of food, their grandparents were always there, giving them bread and showing them kindness and generosity. "If I had not had the people in my life, I may have had a career behind bars. I may have been selling or using drugs and destroying lives. Because God used the people in my life and my brothers' and sisters' lives, most of us are good, decent human beings who love people and most of all, love God," Ron writes.

The Browns do not intend to use "God's Do's and Don'ts" to flaunt their spirituality. They put a value on humility as an indicator of genuine love and spirituality. "God says in the Book of Romans, Chapter 3 Verse 23 ... all of us have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. So when you go to church ... and you start thinking you are better than someone that is not in church a lot, think about this."

The Browns currently live in Kansas City, Mo.
