Blackout! New Novel Presents a Successful Brain Transplant... Amnesia... Then Murder

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 11, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- How is it to wake up one day and find that we are not who we think we are? An impressive blend of fiction, real medical breakthroughs, and credible action-packed scenarios make Norman Bernauer's novel Redmond (now available through 1stBooks Library) a meritorious novel to read. With amnesia as the focal point of conflict, Bernauer grants readers access to this enigmatic illness and portrays how it has drastically changed the life of the story's main protagonist.

Redmond is a riveting story of a brain transplant operation that is meant only as an experiment. It is not expected to succeed. Fortunately or unfortunately, it does. A brain transplant is performed in an attempt to save the life of one of the victims of a devastating head-on collision of two cars. As a result of the operation, the principal character in Redmond is left with a total loss of memory. Aside from not recognizing his own face, he suddenly possesses knowledge and abilities that he supposedly shouldn't have. After a series of bizarre coincidences, he regains complete recall and finds out that he is not who his family and fiancee believe him to be. Apart from having the dilemma of trying to prove who he really is, he discovers that he is not really a victim of a terrible accident, but an object of a murder attempt; he realizes that someone is trying hard to kill him - again!

Bernauer skillfully combines realistic scientific advances with imaginative circumstances. With fast-action drama, witty dialogue, and a terrific plot, Redmond is undoubtedly a winner.

Norman Bernauer holds a B.A. in speech with emphasis on radio from the University of Wisconsin.
