Data I/0 Corporation and M-Systems Collaborate to Provide Support for Cutting-Edge DiskOnChip Line of Single-Chip Flash Disks

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 12, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) --

Agreement Gives OEMs Consistent Support for High-Performance,
Low-Cost Solution for Applications with Limited Space

Today at Electronica in Munich, Germany, Data I/O(r) Corporation (Nasdaq:DAIO), the leading provider of manual and automated programming systems, and M-Systems(r), a leader in Flash-based data storage products, have announced that both companies will collaborate to provide FlashCORE(tm) based programmer support for M-Systems' line of DiskOnChip products.

"Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers will have a powerful combination of high-performing Flash storage devices and high-speed programming," said Kelly Hirsch, Chief Technologist at Data I/O. "In electronics industries requiring higher density memory in small spaces, the need for rapid, consistent support of new, innovative devices such as the DiskOnChip product line is critical to their product's success. The agreement with M-Systems gives OEMs consistent support on our high speed programming systems."

The FlashCORE architecture is behind a line of high-speed Flash programming systems that deliver the lowest cost per programmed device. DiskOnChip is a family of high-performance, single-chip Flash disks available in a wide range of capacities. This unique data-storage solution offers a faster, low-cost solution for applications with limited space. By integrating M-Systems TrueFFS(r) (Flash File System) into the FlashCORE architecture, customers will be able to program M-Systems DiskOnChip at speeds no other programming system provider can match. For example, FlashPAK will program four 22MB image files in 30 seconds. This translates to roughly 10 times faster than a comparable NOR Flash device.

"Data I/O provides an essential resource tool to our large OEMs which require mass programming," said Nir Wakrat, Field Applications Engineer, for M-Systems. "The speed of the ProLine-RoadRunner, PS300 FC, and the FlashPAK will provide the fastest and most efficient DiskOnChip programming solutions available today."

Designers and manufacturers of wireless handsets and PDAs, set top boxes, smart appliances, and telecom/datacom infrastructure require high-density, high performance, low-cost devices and programming solutions. The relationship between Data I/O and M-Systems provides customers with significant advantages along these lines.
