Daring to Pull His Pants Down -- Author Shares His Experience with Prostate Cancer

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 14, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- 30,000 Americans die of prostate cancer every year. But unlike other killer diseases, few victims of this disease share their experiences. This is an unfortunate fact for those with prostate cancer or their loved ones, who would dearly appreciate literature on battling and living with the ailment.

With the intention of accomplishing something of value, author Rupert Wentworth took on the task at hand. He brings us "Caught with My Pants Down: My Story About Prostate Cancer, Metastatic Prostate Cancer, and More."

"Caught with My Pants Down" (now available from 1stBooks Library) is about Wentworth's continuing struggle with prostate cancer, which was diagnosed in 1995. Wentworth narrates his experiences with metastatic prostate cancer (the advanced stage of the disease, where the cancer has escaped the prostate gland). He describes an emotional as well as a physical battle. Wentworth also relates how he pursues his own treatment strategy, which he believes best suits him -- a practice he later discovers to be popular among many cancer survivors.

Wentworth's story is a significant contribution to the existing support structures for cancer victims and their loved ones. In addition, Rupert's attitude towards his illness is inspiring, even for those not afflicted with cancer. In a positive tone, he shares how people have succeeded in fighting the disease. His list includes Bob Dole, General Norman Schwarzkopf and Yankees Manager Joe Torre. He himself hasn't lost hope.

Rupert Wentworth has not yet won his battle with cancer. But with his positive attitude and his valuable contribution through "Caught with My Pants Down," his life can be considered a success. Rupert Wentworth is now 67 and is currently undergoing androgen deprivation therapy. He lives with his wife, Anne, in Bloomington, Indiana.
