ISELIN, N.J., Nov. 22, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced that Winchester Electronics, a business unit of its Component Technologies sector, is leaving its Watertown, Conn., facility and moving to nearby Wallingford, Conn.
The move to the facility in Wallingford will be completed by Nov. 25 and will affect all of the company's 150 headquarters' employees. Winchester Electronics has been located in the Watertown area for more than 40 years.
"Our new facility is state-of-the-art in every way," said Michael P. Driscoll, president of Winchester Electronics. "The move is symbolic for us. We have been moving rapidly away from our legacy business and developing new products for the high-tech future." The new plant and offices, designed by Lee Charles of LCA Design, a New Hampshire firm, incorporates the latest in ergonomic design as well as industrial manufacturing technologies.
Driscoll explained that the company has recently completely revamped its new product development efforts to focus on leading-edge, high-speed, high-bandwidth interconnect products and systems for computing and telecommunications. Winchester Electronics has also increased research and new product development spending to record levels.
"In January, we'll be announcing SIP1000(tm), a new interconnect platform that offers data transmission rates at a minimum of 10 gigabits per second in copper with existing technology, the biggest advance in connector technology that has been made in many years," Driscoll noted. "Winchester Electronics will officially debut SIP1000(tm) in January at the International Engineering Consortium's DesignCon 2003 conference in Santa Clara, Calif. We expect the company to grow rapidly in the years ahead as a result of this technology and other innovations we are developing from our research and development. We chose Wallingford as our new world headquarters location because it is a growing technology hub where we will fit in very well and find the resources we need to grow."
