The Cult, The Occult and The Bizarre -- `Silent Screams,' a New Novel by Rosemarie Drignat

PICKERINGTON, Ohio, Dec. 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- "Silent Screams" (now available through 1stBooks Library) by author Rosemarie A. Drignat boasts of a fine plot and exceptional characters. Drignat effectively and eloquently tackles controversial issues (the existence of cults, AIDS, homosexuality) and at the same time offers a spine-tingling narrative.

"Silent Screams" takes place in the quiet town of Waterson, Conn., and revolves around the lives of Dr. Josef Mechante, the head of a local cult; William Hecht, Dr. Mechante's lifelong, but conflicted friend; Adrian Caine, cult member and Hollywood heartthrob; Erin, a visitor seeking asylum; and Jennifer Longo, an intelligent, gorgeous biochemical researcher.

The conflict starts when Jennifer's friend Erin unexpectedly shows up in the middle of the night with Lilly, a girl who doesn't speak and has a strange posture for a girl her age. Lilly's appearance leads Jennifer to investigate a series of mysterious incidents involving horrible cult activities, gory deaths, and disappearances, inadvertently involving her brother and hearing-impaired grandmother. Her perilous quest leads to blood-curdling scenarios and surprising revelations about the Church of Scientific Clarity and about the sleepy town's deep dark secrets.

Drignat's story penetrates into the fiendish activities of a cult that manipulates its innocent followers and brutally murders helpless children as ritual offerings. Highly sensitive subjects are exposed, analyzed and dissected through Jennifer's ultimate search for truth. "Silent Screams" also talks of homosexuality and how, even in this age of permissiveness and liberalism, is still being frowned upon and considered taboo by some sectors of society.

Born, raised and educated in the state of Connecticut, Rosemarie A. Drignat is a former teacher and technical writer. Drignat's mother, who is hearing-impaired, inspired her to write "Silent Screams." A graduate of Central Connecticut University, Drignat is a mother to two children and now resides in Ohio with her husband.
