The Doomsday Virus -- New Book Warns of a Fictional but Possible Biomedical Threat

MEDFORD, Ore., Dec. 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Peter Ferguson is trying not to panic. The CDC in Atlanta has accidentally released a deadly virus that attacks its host and drags them through a period of two weeks to a slow and painful death. With this chilling scenario "The Doomsday Virus" (now available through 1stBooks Library), by Henry Gates, starts a non-stop thrill ride for the reader, with its intriguing, and probable, storyline.

So far, Peter's ok. He lives in Canada, and decides he's time enough to isolate himself from all contact. He doesn't think there's any other way to survive. He convinces his girlfriend and her family to join him. Holed off from the world, in a tiny cabin located in the northeast region of the Thunder Bay, Canada area, they wait, prepared and competent.

Two years pass by.

They re-enter a depleted civilization, hungry, desperate and confused. Determined to beat the odds, Peter and his makeshift family relocate to a small area in Oregon and begin the process of healing and rebuilding. Faced with seemingly impossible goals, Peter and his family manage to keep their wits about them and create a successful community of others in situations like theirs.

The road will be a long one, but with faith and dedication, Peter Ferguson is resolved to succeed at re-establishing life on earth, step-by-step, and one-by-one.

A fascinating turn of events, Gates puts his power in his pen and glides across the page with one unique twist after another. "The Doomsday Virus" is a must read, not just from a fictional point-of-view, but also as a resource for events that could possibly be just a touch beyond our own horizons.

Henry Gates was born in 1922, in Omaha, Nebraska. He had not yet reached his twentieth birthday, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, forcing the United States into World War II. He had wanted to learn to fly since graduating from high school, and the country's need for aircrew soon found him in the pilot training program. He became proficient in nineteen different aircraft used in the Air Force and logged more than one thousand flight hours during his tenure in the service.

Mr. Gates spent his business career in electronic equipment manufacturing, eventually retiring as vice president, marketing and sales of radio communications equipment for a major manufacturer of such products.
