Life's Little Pleasures -- A collection of poems and essays

N. TONAWANDA, N.Y., Dec. 18, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Rich in family memories, wistfulness, optimism and idealism, Joyce Hagen's "Hell's Bells: A Collection of Poems and Essays" (now available through 1stBooks Library) is an attempt to provoke thoughts about the things people should value in their lives: family, relationships and the beauty all around them. It is a window looking into the beauty, joy, sadness and humor of not only the author's life, but also life in general.

"Hell's Bells" started out as a way to deal with both the grief of losing a loved one and a less than happy childhood, and grew into an expression of love, humor and the beauty found in life's little pleasures. This very insightful collection conveys the message of 1) Finding the beauty in everything around us; 2) Overcoming obstacles; 3) Time heals all; 4) Grief can be constructive; and 5) Humor helps in difficult situations.

A few lines to show the author's profuse creativity reads (from a poem entitled The Darkest Day):

"The sky is clear and blue / just an ordinary day / everything changed in an instant / our innocence taken away / An instant of insanity / that took so many lives / evil, vile, inhuman zealots / willing to commit suicide..."

Hagen's book of poems and essays is simple, honest and fearless. It shows all the vulnerabilities of the author and the strengths available in the human psyche.
