100 Years of Food Covered in a Tasty New Book!

PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 19, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Beverly Bundy examines inventions, innovations, and ingenuity that have fed American appetites for the past hundred years in her new book The Century in Food: America's Fads and Favorites.

During the early 1900s in America, most food was fresh or at best home-canned. Today it's precooked, proportioned, neatly packaged, flash frozen or dehydrated, and waiting in the grocers' freezers or on the store shelves. At the turn of the century, it was common for the woman of the house to prepare food in the fireplace. Today families still occasionally prepare food over an open fire: It's now called a cookout or camping. For most Americans, it is no longer an everyday occurrence.

The Century in Food: America's Fads and Favorites by award-winning food writer Beverly Bundy examines inventions, innovations, and ingenuity that have fed American appetites for the past hundred years.

This exciting book is packed with taste-tempting popular recipes from each decade such as Bacardi Double-Chocolate Rum Cake, Playboy Paella, Sausage-Stuffed Baked Apples, and Chicken Fillets in Tomato-Wine Sauce. With more than 400 full-color images, it is a treat for the eyes as well as the palate.

The enthralling history of American culture and cuisine that accompanies the recipes and pictures in The Century in Food puts it on a shelf above other cookbooks on the market today. This well-received volume is a must for any cookbook collection, or anyone who just likes to cook.
