Allgon Chosen as UMTS Antenna Supplier by Telecom Italia Mobile

TABY, Sweden, Jan. 7, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Allgon, a global supplier of radio-based infrastructure solutions, has been appointed 3G roll out partner by TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile), Italy's leading mobile operator. Continuing a long-term customer relationship, the agreement with TIM cements Allgon's position as one of the leading UMTS suppliers in the competitive European wireless market.

Allgon is one of TIM's suppliers for triple band base station antennas to provide coverage for the GSM 900-, DCS 1800- and UMTS 2100 MHz-bands. Allgon's new triple band solution offer a flexible antenna option for operators seeking excellent RF-performance, and fast and successful roll out of next generation networks. They are designed to overcome UMTS deployment challenges, such as space- and installation issues as well as co-siting matters, in demanding radio environments. As a complement to the triple band antenna build-out, TIM will also use Allgon's high performance broadband antennas.

In spite of major design challenges concerning 3G- and multi band radio equipment, Allgon has succeeded in developing a triple band solution with high performance. The new antennas include Allgon's patented Manually adjustable Electrical Tilt (MET) function, which offer operators flexibility in tuning of antenna systems, and also logistical advantages.

"The appointment of Allgon as a partner of a leading mobile operator is very important to us, and confirms the competence of our high quality base station antenna solutions. The performance of the wireless infrastructure is crucial to 3G service quality," said Jeff Bork, CEO of Allgon.

Allgon's business concept is to develop, manufacture and market radio-based solutions and other products for wireless telephony and data communications. Allgon's product range consists of antenna systems for infrastructure in mobile telephone networks; filters, combiners and similar products for base stations; repeater networks and microwave equipment. Allgon's invoiced sales amounted to SEK 2,001 million in 2001. The number of employees at the end of 2001 amounted to 950. Allgon was founded in 1946.
