Local Stocks in Raleigh-Durham Receive Attention From Nationally Recognized Independent Equity Research Firm

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 7, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- researchstock.com:

According to the industry consensus, only 20 percent of the roughly 14,000 publicly traded companies have any research coverage and as such, a leading independent stock research firm, is preparing free 7-12 page reports on companies in the Ohio, Michigan, the Philadelphia, Pa.; and Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem, North Carolina regions. The research reports, untainted by investment banking relationships, will compare the 12-month stock performance against various leading stock indices on an individual and regional basis and will also provide a brief analysis of the five best-performing stocks and the five worst performing stocks.

According to Richard J. Wayman, CFA, President of researchstock.com, "Earlier this year we published reports on Ohio and Michigan stocks which received a lot of attention from the media in these states and The Wall Street Journal. We are expanding our coverage to increase investor awareness of companies that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve and now want to expand our coverage to further benefit investors."

The reports can be found at www.researchstock.com and will be posted January 8, 2003. He is also preparing separate pay-per-view company reports, which, based on his analysis, show promise for appreciation. Included are: Charles & Colvard, Ltd. (Nasdaq:CTHR); Triangle Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:VIRS); Inveresk Research Group (Nasdaq:IRGI); Investors Title Company (Nasdaq:ITIC). These reports are meant to help individual investors learn about undervalued stocks, but he noted that institutions could also find these reports interesting.

Several investment banks have been fined a total of $1.4 billion for promising research coverage to land lucrative investment banking deals. The Securities and Exchange Commission, other regulatory agencies, and states attorneys are continuing to finalize ways to curb this practice. One method being discussed is to require investment banks to offer independent research from one or more sources.
