Skanska to Construct Fan Plants for New York Subway System -- Order Valued at USD 37.8 M, or SEK 328 M

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska (Other OTC:SKSBF) (Stockholm:SKAb) has secured a contract to construct two underground fan plants for the New York subway, valued at USD 37.8 M, about SEK 328 M. The customer is New York City Transit and the order sum is included in the order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2002.

The contract is for the construction of two underground fan plants for the subway in Lower Manhattan a few blocks from Ground Zero. The Park Place plant will be equipped with three 150HP fans and the Albany Street plant with two 200HP fans, which will reinforce ventilation on lines 1 and 9. Skanska USA Civil will be responsible for the civil construction, as well as for the mechanical and electrical installation.

The projects are extremely complicated because the streets, surrounding buildings and groundwater level must be safeguarded. Additionally, the construction sites are crossed by all types of service utilities, such as water, sewage, gas, steam and also telecom and electrical lines, which must be in operation for the entire construction period. This will be achieved through temporary solutions and other measures.

The work will commence immediately and will be conducted simultaneously at both sites, to ensure completion in 23 months. The street level at the Park Place/West Broadway and Albany Street/Greenwich Street intersections, which are affected by the work, will be restored in 16 months.

The assignments will be conducted by Skanska USA Civil's units, Slattery Skanska and Gottlieb Skanska, which have earlier conducted a number of similar projects in New York.
