``Epic of the American Frontier'' -- The Story of a British family in America

CLAREMONT, Calif, January 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- When King Charles I of England was convicted of treason and beheaded in the mid-17th century, one of his devoted followers, Nicholas, was forced to leave his ancestral manor, undertake a perilous sea journey, and start a new life in the New World. Thus begins the more than 300-year history and the enduring generations of a British family, the Worthingtons, in America, in George Worthington's new book "Epic of the American Frontier: Glimpses of 300 Years of American History Through the Eyes of One Family" (now available through 1stBooks Library).

Spanning more than 300 years of history, from the 1600s through the Second World War, "Epic of the American Frontier" begins with the story of the young and idealistic Nicholas. Fresh from his journey from war-torn England, Nicholas settles down in the New World and struggles through a frontier life. He and his "little family" endure many hardships and witness the Indian massacres of the late 17th century. What follows then are the generations of the Worthingtons who live through every important event in American history.

More than a chronicle of one's family history, "Epic of the American Frontier" is a definitive guide about early American life. Furthermore, it gives readers a personal and unique perspective on major happenings, such as the Boston Tea Party, the American Revolution, and the Civil War, as seen through the eyes of one family, the Worthingtons. Readers will also get a glimpse of changing times as the births of the automobile and electricity are featured in this book.

Author George Worthington was born in Wisconsin during the Great Blizzard of '88, heralding the stormy years ahead, including the two World Wars and the Great Depression. He witnessed the world's great transformation with the inventions of the automobile, the airplane and electricity. Upon completion of a degree in law, Worthington was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court. He also served as advisor to General McArthur in Tokyo during the initial occupation of Japan, while working in the Department of Justice. He was author and co-author of several legal works.
