Resolve in the Face of Adversity -- Novel recounts one young man's story of courage and bravery during World War II

BROOKSVILLE, Fla., January 20, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Most have heard, read or viewed the poignant accounts of those who lived, served and died, whatever side they represented, during World War II. It was a time of horror and grief. Families were torn apart as men went off to war, leaving terrified wives and fatherless children. "Through Hell and Beyond in a Boxcar" (now available through 1stBooks Library) portrays an image of the real-life horror experienced by author Robert G. Glejf, a young boy during the war.

With vivid descriptions, Glejf begins the narrative as the war began. The sound of bombs dropping can almost be heard behind the words as the tension builds and the reader questions: How can he survive?

But, serendipity manifested itself at every juncture of the author's life.

Robert G. Glejf was born in 1929 in Poland, in a region now known as Belarus. His first 10 years were spent on a military base where his father served as cavalryman. Poland was divided between Germany and Russia in September of 1939. Shortly after, the family was exiled to Siberia as enemies of the state, simply because his father was part of the military.

Glejf and his family eventually found their way to Iran, minus one sister, who at the age of nine walked away from a train in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and was lost. The family was miraculously reunited one year later. However, another sister, born during chaos, died at the age of nine months.

Years later the family found themselves in India. Though they lived in tents in the desert, they attended school between malaria attacks. Glejf eventually made it to the United States. Years later, he became a Marine and served during the Korean War. He finished college and became a manufacturing engineer.

Glejf, who raised five children, currently lives with his wife in Florida.
