BACKGROUND: The Gazela, a Class A, 3- Masted, 177 foot Tall Ship, is the oldest, largest square-rigged wooden ship still actively sailing. Built in 1883, the Gazela sailed from Portugal to its new home in Philadelphia in 1971 and has been featured in several movies including 1993's "Interview with a Vampire" starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The Gazela is maintained and sailed by a volunteer crew and is recruiting volunteers for the 2003 season.
