Remembering The Forgotten War -- Accomplished Author Remembers the Korean War in Brilliant New Novel

SEOUL, Korea, Feb. 5, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The generations of today know war as only as a piece of the past. While this is a blessing in many ways, it puts the burden of remembering the reality of war on the shoulders of those who lived and died on foreign shores. Soldiers, friends, family and the curious alike must share their stories or risk losing them forever. The Dandelion Ranch: A Love Story. Annie and Her Cowboy Marine During the Korean War's Chosin Reservoir Campaign (now available through 1stBooks Library) by Kyung Ae Jeon is the story of a war almost forgotten and the people who lived to tell the tale.

The Dandelion Ranch is set in Horseshoe, Mont. a small town home to an annual spring rodeo championship. Annie, the heroine, spends her days working on a volunteer basis in a small Pioneer Museum. Angry and bitter, Annie is unabashed in her hate for Korea and its people. As a young girl, she fell in love with a cowboy named Johnny. Angry with his father, Johnny joined the U.S. Marines and was sent to Korea. Killed during the Korean War's Chosin Reservoir Campaign, Johnny never came home and Annie never forgot him.

It is only when Dr. Louie King, a Korean orphan with a doctorate, happens upon Horseshoe that Annie is forced to come face to face with the demons that have haunted her life. After many discussions and arguments, Annie and Dr. Louie become close friends and the healing process begins.

Author Kyung Ae Jeon was born in Taegu, South Korea in 1948. A graduate from Ewha Girl's High School and Sogang Jesuit University, she worked for the Korea Herald, an English newspaper in Seoul for many years. Jeon has also translated several books into Korean, including Treasure Island, Time Zero, and The Diary of Anne Frank. Of the Korean War, Jeon says, "The reason the Korean War became the "Forgotten War" is because there is no famous novel on the Korean War. This is the 'first' book written on the Korean War from the American perspective by a Korean writer. Many American young men sacrificed their lives during the Korean War for freedom and democracy in Korea. The Korean War became the 'Forgotten War,' but their sacrifice should never be forgotten."

Jeon is the author of The Rose and the Knife, Montana 625 and The Chosin Few, all in Korean. She is also a member of the Korean Writers Association and International PEN club.
