COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Feb. 6, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- GN (Other OTC:GGNDF) has won a tender to become OEM supplier of a Bluetooth(TM) headset to Motorola, Inc. in close competition with several other highly-qualified bidders. The first shipment is expected to go out in the second half of this year. The agreement will not impact the announced 2003 revenue and earnings projections.
Bluetooth(TM) is a trademark owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and is used by GN Netcom under license Combining GN's strengths in Bluetooth technology with Motorola's original design and the use of GN Netcom's patented flip-boom arm, the tiny, unique 3rd generation Blue-tooth headset weighs less than 24 grams (less than an ounce). It fits directly on the ear and provides wireless communication within a 10-meter radius.
The agreement is very important to GN, because it further consolidates GN Netcom's position as a close business partner to the world's top cellphone manufacturers and positions GN Netcom as one of the world's leading manufacturers of cellphone head-sets. More than 400 million cellphones are sold worldwide per year (2002), of which an estimated 6% of these were Bluetooth enabled. In 2002, GN Netcom produced 350,000 Bluetooth headsets.
