Marguerite M. Ray and her husband, Robert, know first hand what it is like to experience many different cultures and lifestyles throughout the world. In Circle of Dreams: A Memoir, Ray chronicles her family's many adventures. In one particularly harrowing tale, Ray relates the time she, her husband and two of their children crossed the Andes Mountains in Peru -- in a Jeep station wagon.
After their terrifying journey across the mountains in the dark and rain, Ray found out that the next section of road they were approaching was one way for three days of the week, the other way for the next three and a free-for-all on Sunday. Seemingly unable to continue, Ray realized they had stay the night in the town in which they had found shelter. But, because her husband was a government official, they were given permission to brave the traffic. This is just one of many tales brought vividly to life in Circle of Dreams.
Marguerite Ray was born and grew up in Jacksonville, Fla. After graduating from college, she joined the U.S. Navy WAVES, serving in Miami and New York. It was during graduate school at Vanderbilt University that she met Robert, her future husband. Robert was an international economist and for over fifty years they lived and worked in eight different countries on four different continents.
