Parenting Pearls of Wisdom -- New book offers bits of wisdom for the tough job of parenting

ELMIRA, N.Y., February 6, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Parenting Pearls (now available through 1stBooks Library) by Verlene McGee, is powerful, yet simple. Informational, inspirational and sometimes humorous, Parenting Pearls is different from your typical mainstream parenting book. The book includes gems of truth on each and every page.

Insightful lessons, intermingled with sprouts of candor, lend a witty twist to each message. Based on her own parenting and grand-parenting experiences, McGee addresses a different subject in each lesson, such as Famous Last Words and TV or Not TV. With vivid imagery, McGee uncovers the exhausting and challenging realities of parenting, such as the expenses and the heartaches.

McGee addresses the fact that most people desire to become parents long before they actually do. One can contribute that to a nurturing instinct or, perhaps, the hope of dreams relived through our children, McGee states. Often times rewarding, yet time-consuming, the author notes that parenting requires flexibility, firmness and the ability to know the difference.

Often times a roller coaster ride of emotions and responsibilities, parenting is a round the clock job. Ingeniously laid out and masterfully sinuous, Parenting Pearls allows readers to identify and learn from the author's own experiences as not only a parent and grandparent, but as an elementary teacher and reading specialist.

McGee is the mother of three daughters and grandparent to two girls and one boy. She lives with her husband, Reverend Cephus McGee, who is a retired prison chaplain, in Elmira, N.Y.

McGee began her writing career after leaving a 23-year stint as an educator. She began writing a column for her local newspaper and conducting parental workshops, sponsored by a local school district.

Parenting Pearls was written based on extensive research and parents interviews. A three-year effort, the book began as a collection of essays and statements that eventually became what it is today.
