Paulig: Diminicol Receives GRAS Status from the FDA in the U.S.

Teriaka Takes a Serious Step into the Functional Food Business

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 11, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Finnish company Teriaka Ltd. has received GRAS status from the FDA for its patented product Diminicol(R). This means that it can be used as an ingredient in many different foods. It has been clinically proven that Diminicol(R) significantly reduces cholesterol. This natural food ingredient contains plant sterols in a unique microcrystalline structure, making Diminicol(R) highly effective in lowering cholesterol.

Patented in many countries

Diminicol(R) has been patented both in the USA and in many other markets. It is marketed primarily to international food and beverage companies which want to position themselves on the market for functional foods.

Diminicol(R) is GRAS in the following food groups: margarines, spreads, soft cheeses, yoghurts, milk-juice drinks, ice creams, health and snack bars, white breads and rolls, salad dressings and mayonnaise.

Teriaka focuses on health effects

A member of the Paulig Group, Teriaka Ltd. develops and markets health promoting ingredients and methods. Its research focuses on safe and scientifically tested products. Commercial negotiations are ongoing globally with interested parties. GRAS status strengthens Teriaka's position, especially on the U.S. market, but it will also open doors worldwide because of the strict requirements for proof.
