SIP Forum Launches New Web Site and Working Groups

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Feb. 12, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In conjunction with the announcement, the SIP Forum welcomes new corporate memberships in a global bid to embed SIP as the working protocol amongst vendors:

SIP Forum (www.sipforum.org), the leading forum for the promotion and inter-working of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), today announced the launch of its new Web site and a host of new working groups forged to bring about interoperability and seamless integration amongst applications and hardware vendors.

During the past two years the SIP Forum has seen its corporate membership base rise to 25 companies representing a full cross section of the industry, from applications developers through to service providers and equipment manufacturers. Also during that time, the number of individual members has grown to an impressive community of SIP enthusiasts.

The new SIP Forum Web site will be a comprehensive resource for the SIP community and for anyone who wants to learn more about the SIP protocol. SIP is a revolutionary new approach to voice and video communications that is already transforming telecommunication networks worldwide. The Web site will provide access to the latest information about SIP and its applications, while at the same time acting as a storefront for the products and services developed by SIP Forum members.

The new SIP Forum working groups being launched are the Service Providers Work Group and the SIP Certification Work Group. Already, both groups have attracted significant interest from throughout the industry and have extended assistance to the IETF and 3GPP ratification efforts. These initiatives allow SIP Forum members to focus their interest on those issues most relevant to their market.

"The new Web format will bring about greater cohesiveness amongst SIP developers and marketing personal," says Jorgen Bjorkner, SIP Forum chairman. "The SIP Forum coupled with the SIPit events are bringing about change in the market, making it easier and cost efficient for vendors to develop applications and hardware which are compliant to the SIP standards."

The next SIPit event (SIPit 12) takes place in Stockholm, Sweden on the 24th - 28th February 2003, and is hosted by Hotsip AB.
