Teleca and Symbian Strengthen Cooperation Through U.S. Symbian Competence Center

MALMO, Sweden, Feb. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today Teleca (Stockholm:TELCb) has been named a Symbian Competence Center in the United States. The appointment means that Teleca is further expanding its partnership with Symbian and its licensees with regard to the development of wireless technologies.

The U.S. is a fast growing market for Symbian OS, the world leading operating system for smartphones. A number of U.S.-based mobile phone manufacturers are today developing, or are about to initiate development of, mobile phones based on Symbian OS. Through Teleca's U.S. Symbian Competence Center these manufacturers can now get professional support locally. Teleca has already initiated the first assignments and are expecting an immediate increase in activities.

Through its existing Symbian Competence Center's in Sweden and the U.K., Teleca has been working closely with Psion and Symbian since 1994 to develop core components of Symbian OS, and has provided development services to a number of Symbian OS licensees worldwide. The addition of the Symbian Competence Center in the U.S. further strengthens Teleca's Symbian OS service offering, including consultancy, bespoke application development, or complete managed delivery of all software aspects of Symbian OS phone development.

"Teleca's existing expertise with our technology has already been proven within a number of successful consulting engagements," said Morgan Gillis, Executive Vice President, Professional Services, Symbian. "Symbian is very pleased to have Teleca within the Symbian Competence Center community."

"Teleca is pleased to announce the addition of a Symbian Competence Center in the U.S. We see a major opportunity in helping manufacturers build the next generation of intelligent terminals. Our partnership with Symbian promotes Teleca's strategy to develop U.S. operations for our mobile device business," said Daniel Kivikas, President of Teleca USA, Inc.

Symbian develops and licenses the global industry standard operating system for advanced mobile phones and is licensed by the world's leading handset manufacturers including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericsson who represent over 80% of worldwide annual mobile phone sales.
