NCC to Build Section of Highway 48 in Skaraborg for SEK 245 million

SOLNA, Sweden, Feb. 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- NCC has been commissioned by the National Road Administration's Western Region to construct a section of Highway 48 between Borgunda and Skovde. This turnkey contract is worth SEK 245 million.

The section to be built will comprise a 2.4-kilometer dual two lane highway located in Skultorp. The project includes construction of an approximately 700-meter concrete tunnel and five bridges.

The concrete tunnel will pass under the P4 Regiment's exercise field and its construction is a prerequisite for the Regiment's Artillery Division continuing its operations. Construction of the tunnel will be technologically complex, since very high groundwater pressure will complicate foundation-engineering work.

Work will commence in March and extend over two and a half years, meaning the project will be completed in autumn 2005. It is estimated that a total of about 50 employees will be involved in the project.

"This project has been discussed for many years. Now that it has finally been approved, it is gratifying that we have been commissioned to undertake this important assignment. We have the technology and the expertise required for this type of highly complex tunnel work," said Richard Thorpo, Department Manager at NCC Construction Sweden.
