National Issues Addressed at Industry's Leading Workers' Comp Conference presented by National Underwriter


CINCINNATI, Ohio, March 11, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- With insurance fraud increasing, terrorism exclusions scrutinized and workers' compensation legislation in flux, legal, medical, and insurance professionals have an immediate need for information and analysis from industry experts who know national workers' comp issues.

These are some of the issues to be discussed during National Trends in Workers' Compensation, presented by National Underwriter, as part of the 58th Annual Workers' Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC) to be held August 17-20, 2003, in Orlando.

A nationally recognized publisher of insurance industry information, National Underwriter provides pertinent information to workers' compensation professionals on marketplace issues. The National Trends in Workers' Compensation track brings together insurance company executives and leading workers' comp authorities to debate topics of critical interest to the national workers' compensation industry.

The conference's keynote address, "The Road Ahead in Workers' Compensation," will be presented by Stephen W. Lilienthal, CPCU, chairman & CEO, CNA Insurance Companies. Breakout sessions in this year's National Trends track include presentations on national legislative trends, fighting fraud, back-to-work policies, and handling angry claimants.

Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of National Underwriter - Property & Casualty Edition Sam Friedman will moderate a panel discussion on terrorism and its effects on workers' comp insurers. He will be joined by Robert Hartwig, senior vice president and chief economist of the Insurance Information Institute, Robert Purdy, zonal executive vice president of AIG/American Home Assurance Co., and David Schrader, senior vice president of INSTRAT for Guy Carpenter & Company.

Other session presenters will include experts from the American Insurance Association, the Alliance of American Insurers, the National Association of Independent Insurers, MarketStance, NCCI, the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, ISO, The Hartford's Specialty Risk Services, Travelers, the Workers Transition Network, GuilfordPare, and the International Insurance Institute.

The WCEC attracts physicians, adjusters, attorneys, medical case managers, rehabilitation providers, and paralegals and legal support staff. During the course of the 2 1/2 day conference, there will be over 100 educational sessions presented, many of them offering important CE credits.
