Harsco Heckett MultiServ Executive Elected Chairman of National Slag Association

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 26, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Harsco Corporation's Heckett MultiServ division announced today that Gene A. Iannazzo, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Heckett MultiServ North America, has been elected chairman of the National Slag Association, the United States' leading trade organization dedicated to promoting effective and environmentally-responsible uses for steel and iron-making slags.

As chairman, Mr. Iannazzo heads an organization of member companies, affiliates and individuals from 14 different countries having responsibilities or interest in the processing, handling and application of slag materials. Once viewed as a marginally useful by-product of the steelmaking process, slag is now seen as a premier construction aggregate and a preferred material for a variety of uses including highway roadbuilding. When crushed, steel slag forms a cubical-shaped aggregate with extremely strong interlocking structures and high skid resistance. Non-construction uses include Portland cement production, soil remineralization, and as a pH supplement for treating acidic run-off and remediation of industrial wastewater. Further information is available at the National Slag Association website at www.nationalslagassoc.org.

Harsco's Heckett MultiServ division is the world's leading provider of on-site, outsourced mill services to the steel and metals industry. The division operates at approximately 150 mills in over 30 countries, providing a broad range of customized services that include slag processing and metal recovery, by-product recovery and recycling, semi- and finished-product management, integrated materials handling, and specialist transportation services.

Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) is a $2 billion diversified industrial services and products company employing approximately 17,500 people in more than 40 countries of operation.
