Precise Biometrics Launches new Software and Strengthens Offering to Smart Card Market

LUND, Sweden, March 27, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Precise Biometrics AB (publ) (Other OTC: PBMTF), developer and provider of world leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, strengthens its offering to the smart card market by complementing its product portfolio with a new software, Precise BioMatch(TM) M, for fingerprint matching on smart cards supported by the operating system, MULTOS.

The launch means that Precise Biometrics' technology for fingerprint matching on smart cards, Precise Match-on-Card(TM), can now be integrated into any of the leading smart cards on the market. With Precise BioMatch(TM) M, Precise Biometrics' technology to match fingerprints on smart cards, Precise Match-on-Card(TM), can be added to smart cards utilizing the MULTOS operating system. MULTOS, commonly used for credit cards and ID cards, is, together with Java Card, the most important multi-application smart card operating system on the market. By combining fingerprint functionality with a MULTOS operating system, smart card issuers can offer a solution which significantly decreases the risk of identity fraud and theft.

Steve Everhard, CEO of MAOSCO Ltd, the company set up to promote and develop the MULTOS specifications as an open industry standard, welcomes the launch of Precise BioMatch(TM) M. "With Precise BioMatch(TM) M, smart card issuers can offer their customers yet another level of security. Using Precise Match-on-Card(TM) means that the fingerprint matching takes place in the secure environment of the smart card. The fact that the fingerprint functionality can be added to both new and already issued smart cards will greatly simplify the deployment of fingerprint functionality for identity markets."

"The MULTOS market has shown great interest in our developments, which we believe is due to the perfect fit of our Precise BioMatch(TM) M. With the launch of Precise BioMatch(TM) M we have a very strong product portfolio and can offer Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology to any of the leading smart cards on the market," said Jonas Andersson, Product Marketing Director at Precise Biometrics.

Precise BioMatch(TM) M complements Precise Biometrics' other products for smart cards, Precise BioMatch(TM) C, for integration into the operating system of any smart card and Precise BioMatch(TM) J, for Java smart cards. Just like Precise BioMatch(TM) J, Precise BioMatch(TM) M can be added to the smart card at any point of the lifecycle -- production, personalization or any time after issuance, which allows for flexible introduction of biometrics.

Precise BioMatch(TM) M will de demonstrated by MAOSCO and Precise Biometrics on May 12-15 at the smart card trade show CardTech SecurTech 2003 in Orlando, USA.
