Tried and True -- New Book Covers Five Actual Court Cases in Detail Examining How the Judicial System Works

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, March 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- For Robert C. Tilden, sometimes luck can play as crucial a part in success as being good at his job. His new book, I'd Rather Be 'Lucky' Than 'Good': Reminiscences of a Trial Lawyer (now available through 1stBooks Library) recounts five important cases that occurred during his career.

A retired trial lawyer after 40 years, Tilden recalls cases of extreme importance. All five cases were actually tried. They run the gamut from a military justice hearing reviewing officer conduct while a POW in the Korean War, a claim of slander against a powerful corporate mogul and a bitter feud between brothers over the control of the family business and the attempted use of falsified corporate documents by the opposition. In addition, Tilden tells accounts of successful large claims against two of the nation's largest corporations.

This is not a work of fiction. Every case found within the pages are trials that actually took place and remain on the record in their respective courts. Tilden takes the reader from the initial "discovery" stage through the trials and appellate reviews showing how the justice system really works in practice. With details of a settlement, evaluations and psychology, I'd Rather Be 'Lucky' Than 'Good' is an insight into what it takes to try and win a lawsuit, and what it takes to make it through the trials of life.

Tilden holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Iowa, College of Law and served as notes and legislation editor of the Iowa Law Review. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a charter member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers. Once nominated to fill a vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court, Tilden began his career trying general courts-martial cases while serving in the U.S. Army, Judge Advocate General's Corp during the Korean War. After the war he specialized in civil trial practice and appeals in both federal and state courts until his retirement in 1990. This is his first book.
