Hunted on the Rooftop of the World -- New Novel Follows Band of Soviet Soldiers up Mt. Everest and Into the Jaws of the Yeti

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In the blinding blizzard of Mount Everest, a small band of Soviet soldiers and civilians scale to the top. Behind them, obscured by the snow, a creature stalks them, hungry for their flesh. A secret mission becomes an isolated massacre in Yeti (now available through 1stBooks Library), the new novel by Jack Slade.

Slade's story opens with Major Andre Ivanov, who seeks to reestablish his career after his unit was nearly wiped out during a battle in the ongoing Russian Afghani War. Accepting a secret mission from his superiors, Major Ivanov will do anything for his country, even if it means murdering all the civilians involved. Larry Smith is a cocky American mountain climber hired under false pretenses. When he learns he is working for the Soviet army, it is already too late.

As the team climbs above the snow line, they are left alone and cut off from the world below. Soon, they discover that they are being hunted. The legendary Yeti has been stalking them up the mountain. With savage ferocity, the creature kills them one by one while they are vulnerable and eats them. Their weapons are limited, so Major Ivanov and Smith have no choice but to send the group higher up the mountain. Without acclimating to the dizzying heights, their bodies begin to fail. Now they are trapped between the dizzying effects of the altitude and the snarling hunger of the Yeti. The survivors will have to band together one last time against the powerful creature hunting them.

A terrifying, dizzying read, Yeti is a suspenseful thriller set on the rooftop of the world.
