`The Cutman' Hits Philly! Official Selection of 2003 Philadelphia Film Festival Screens April 9 at Penn's Landing Seaport Museum


NEW YORK, April 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- D.A. Pennebaker and company are pleased to announce that their award-winning film, "The Cutman," will be screening at the 2003 Philadelphia Film Festival, April 3-17.

"The Cutman" (2003) is an arresting and original film of love, redemption and healing wounds. A worn-out boxing cutman (Jack McCormack, "Frequency") struggles to reclaim his true lifelong job. But after a crucial mistake in the ring, he is forced to seek the help of his estranged son and confront his troubled past. Writer/Director Yon Motskin and his award-winning collaborators have crafted a confident, visually stunning and emotionally poignant urban tale of an ordinary man under extraordinary pressure.

"The Cutman" recently made its screen debut at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, and went on to garner attention at other high-profile film festivals, including the Los Angeles Film Festival, Santa Barbara Film Festival (Santa Barbara, CA), and the South by Southwest (Austin, TX) and Cinequest (SanJose, CA) film festivals. The film will continue its journey through the festival circuit this year, to include stops in Orlando, Fla.; Poitiers, France; and a return to New York City for a screening at the Tribeca Film Festival.

About the Filmmakers

Yon Motskin (writer/director) was born in Toronto, studied photography and theatre, and received his BFA from NYU's Film Program in 2002. He has won numerous awards, including the Brett Ratner Film Award and the Heinemann Production Award. Currently, he is developing a number of original feature projects, one of which is a finalist for the Sundance Filmmaker Lab.

Philly Hometown Girls Bring "The Cutman" Home

Producer Christina DeHaven, a Philadelphia native, graduated from Central High School in 1995 and went on to attend the Film Program at Tisch School of the Arts (NYU), with a concentration in film producing. She is currently producing a feature documentary for HBO. "The Cutman" is Christina's second film to be featured at Sundance. Her first short film, titled "3D" (director Pete Chatmon), screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001.

Costume Designer Nicole Fisher is also a Philly Native and fellow-alumnus of Central High School. She attended college at Howard University in Washington D.C., and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She has designed garments for middleweight boxing champion, Bernard Hopkins; ?uest Love of the Grammy award winning rap group, The Roots; The Beatnuts; Doggy's Angels; and Free, co-host of BET's video countdown show, 106th & Park. She has also designed costumes for several theatrical productions at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Eagles - Youth Partnership.
