Adesta Works to Protect Underground Facilities In Chicago and Surrounding Areas

OMAHA, Neb., April 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Several Illinois utilities will protect their underground facilities with maintenance services provided by Adesta LLC, a systems integrator for communications networks, electronic security systems, and intelligent transportation systems. The company's Midwest regional office in Romeoville, Illinois, will screen one-call tickets and perform locates for the utilities as a part of JULIE (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators). New agreements have been signed with North Shore Sanitary District, Wheaton Sanitary District, Mill Creek Special Service Area, and Touch America, a telecommunications company.

"JULIE is not new to us, we manage the one-call process on a daily basis," said Jay Jorgenson, Adesta Regional Manager in Romeoville. "We also co-chair the South Central Damage Prevention Council. Our regional office has located underground facilities for nearly 10 years in Northern Illinois, performing engineering and locating for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, utilities, and many telecom companies. Our skill sets are an important part of operating and maintaining underground facilities and can save utilities money."

It's the law in Illinois, and every other state except Hawaii, that buried utilities be marked to both protect workers and prevent infrastructure damage that can disrupt service. Screening "call before you dig" calls, locating infrastructure, and documenting facilities is all part of JULIE, also known as the Illinois One-Call System.

Out of sight and easily forgotten by the public, most urban and suburban areas have a complex and costly infrastructure under the ground. Vital services from electricity, to gas, to cable lines, function 24/7. These services are often taken for granted, but nationwide utility damage has become a serious problem.
