Teleca to Open New Subsidiary in Japan


MALMO, Sweden, April 22, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca has decided to open a new subsidiary in Tokyo, Japan, which will be operational by the second half of 2003. During 2002, Teleca started a local sales campaign in Japan, directed at mobile device customers, and has successfully developed new business with a number of leading companies. The new subsidiary will further strengthen Teleca's Mobile Device business in Asia, which continues to perform very well with strong demand.

Japan is the world's number two economy overall and the world leader in consumer electronics and telecommunications, two of Teleca's prime markets. With a new subsidiary in Japan, Teleca will be able to win substantial new local business, and also deliver professional services from Europe to customers based in Japan. Teleca will also leverage from existing customer relationships with many large customers in Europe being Japanese including: - Mitsubishi; Panasonic; Sony and Toshiba.

A sales team and technical support will be established first. Additional staff will be recruited in-line with the business development. Teleca expects the new subsidiary to be profitable and have at least 10 staff within 6 months of being operational. Teleca will initially focus on the Mobile Device and Telecom Equipment markets with an emphasis on Symbian, Series 60 Platform and Obigo. In the future, Teleca plans to develop the business into its other key business segments such as Automotive and Life Science.
