United Online, Inc. Names Carol A. Scott, Ph.D. to Its Board of Directors


WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., April 29, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- United Online, Inc. (Nasdaq:UNTD), a leading provider of value-priced Internet services, today announced the appointment of Carol A. Scott, Ph.D. to its board of directors. Dr. Scott is a professor of marketing and faculty director of the Executive Program at The John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Scott has been on the faculty at UCLA since 1977, and served the school in a variety of administrative positions from 1986 through 1994, including chairman of the faculty and associate dean for academic affairs. She was also a visiting associate professor at the Harvard Business School in 1985, and was on the faculty at Ohio State University for three years prior to joining UCLA in 1977. Dr. Scott is a frequent author and lecturer and has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Consumer Research since 1980.

United Online also announced today that Jennifer Fonstad, managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, a venture capital firm, is leaving the United Online board of directors to continue focusing her attention on emerging growth companies. Ms. Fonstad joined the United Online board of directors (then the NetZero board of directors) when Draper Fisher Jurvetson made a venture capital investment in NetZero in 1999.
