STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Tele2 AB (Nasdaq:TLTOA) (Nasdaq:TLTOB) (Stockholmsborsen:TEL2A) (Stockholmsborsen:TEL2B)("Tele2", "the Group"), the leading alternative pan-European telecommunications company, today announced that Tele2's mobile operator in Luxembourg, Tango, has launched its 3G (UMTS) network. Tango is the largest mobile provider in Luxembourg and Tele2 was awarded a UMTS license in Luxembourg in May 2002.
Tele2's 3G-network, which covers 90% of the population and 70% of the territory in Luxembourg, will use Tango's existing 2G (GSM) network infrastructure as a base. It will initially be a soft launch, with the major push coming during the third quarter.
The 3G launch will provide additional capacity to the network and provide Tango customers with new services, including messaging services using both photo and video, internet access and live video streaming of Tango TV.
