Popeyes(r) Chicken & Biscuits Celebrates the Launch of its New, Big Easy Chicken Po' Boy Sandwiches

ATLANTA, April 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Starting this week customers of Popeyes(r) Chicken & Biscuits, a division of AFC Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq:AFCEE), can give their palates a taste of the Big Easy with the new Popeyes Chicken Po' Boy Sandwiches. To commemorate this new addition to the Popeyes everyday menu, participating Popeyes restaurants this week will offer customers a Chicken Po' Boy sandwich and medium drink for only $2.99.

Popeyes Chicken Po' Boy Sandwiches feature tender, all-white meat chicken strips, fresh lettuce and crisp pickles on warm French bread. Customers may order the sandwiches with either Popeyes Classic Mild Chicken or its world-famous New Orleans Spicy Chicken.

"We love this Po' Boy sandwich and know our customers will too," said Billy Jacob, executive chef for Popeyes. "It's not only a great addition to our everyday menu, it's also a culinary tribute to our Louisiana roots!"

The Po' Boy legend started in the 1920s in New Orleans, the birthplace of Popeyes, when streetcar workers went on strike. A local restaurant's staff took French bread and stuffed it with just about anything they could find to come up with an affordable sandwich for the striking workers. Through the years, the name was shortened to "Po' Boy" and continues to be a New Orleans tradition.

Popeyes Chicken Po'Boy sandwiches are sold individually or as combo meals.
