Danger in Heavy Air -- New Novel Follows Indiana Jones-esque Character Trying to Escape From Corrupt Cops

BAJA, Calif., May 1, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- All Jack Dalton wants to do is write another book, but he happens to be a skilled pilot with a job to do. However, Dalton discovers that his gig may not be legitimate. Bill Kirchhoff takes the reader on a high-flying adventure in Heavy Air (now available through 1stBooks Library).

Kirchhoff introduces the world to his heroic protagonist, Whisperin' Jack Dalton, an Indiana Jones type. Wounded in the Gulf War, hardened as a contract helicopter pilot in Asia and South America, all he wants to do is fly part-time, settle in his beachfront house in Baja and write another book. His new flying job, however, with the Border City police department turns out to be more dangerous than any of the wars he retired from.

Hired to ferry police brass from Border City to the Mexican port city of Ensenada, his solitude for writing is interrupted by killers from both sides of the border and betrayal by his most trusted friends.

Narrowly escaping a plot to kill him by corrupt Border City Police Chief Silva Buno and an underworld casino owner, Laz Forbes, Dalton finds himself a fugitive on the run with the beautiful but dangerous Velda Dean. Heavy Air takes the reader on a tour of the underbellies of San Diego and the Baja peninsula filled with deadly fighting, professional shooters, drugs, crime and corrupt cops.

"As the killers stalk Jack Dalton you will explore the beauty and mystery of the borderlands and the violence that lies just beneath the surface of its shifting sands," Kirchhoff states.

Kirchhoff was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service in Vietnam. He has been involved with scores of police departments, including some of Mexico's largest, as city manager, consultant and university professor. Heavy Air is his first novel. He has previously published a book for police executives, How Bright is Your Badge and a management book, Conflict Management: Lessons Learned From the Art of War and is co-author of Command Performance. His is presently working on another Jack Dalton story, Wicked Air.
