A Voice for Women Through Divorce -- New Book of Poetry Helps Women Reclaim Identity, Work Through Emotions

ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 5, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- For any woman going through a divorce or struggling to reclaim her own identity after a loss, poet Beverly Jenai offers a collection of poems describing her own rebirth that almost all women can relate to. In Kin'lin for the Soul: For Those Who've Loved, and Dare to Love Again (now available through 1stBooks Library), Jenai's poems serve as a voice for women.

Jenai, who was divorced from her husband after 28 years, describes her work as poetry that transcends age and ethnicity, containing unedited emotions from a woman trying to recapture her sense of self. She shares her journey through divorce and has rediscovered the "I Am" that she somehow lost while being married for so many years.

The reader can watch her blossom through the pages and see her ultimately find a quiet spirituality that led her down paths that she never dreamed of. New ideas of goodness emerge through her writing as well, and Jenai discovers that angels exist and spiritual guides can wear cowboy boots and ride horses.

Offering a true, unique voice for women, especially those ending long term marriages, Jenai helps women validate intimate emotions, face reality with courage, find solace when alone and realize they are not alone in their struggle.

" ... There's something about walking through the storms/ facing pounding hails ... eyes wide open ... rain blowing in my face/ wearing contact lenses ... I won't stop telling my brown green blue eyes/ to feel pleasure doing soulful cha' cha' dances even hustles/ when I pass all the reflective mirrors in my home/ To rejoice in my presence/ I've placed them everywhere/ so I can catch reflections ... / of my preciousness in the world/ simply makes me wanna grin with approval ... / me/ my preciousness,/ my ex ... refused to see ... "

Jenai was born and raised in Detroit. She is best known for developing, presenting, training and writing youth mentoring programs on a national scale. She attended Central State University and Eastern Michigan University, and holds a bachelor's degree in social work. Winning multiple honors for her poetry, she also is a painter, sculptor and one of the founders of the African American Museum in Ann Arbor, Mich.
