Have Some Epic Heroes Over for Dinner -- New Book Hopes to Resurrect Art of Dinner Conversation with Characters of Epic Literature and Bible

ROCKFORD, Ill., May 7, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- It is said that teenagers are always hungry and never satisfied. C.A. McClung believes it is not food they desire, but a spiritual feast. In her new book, entitled Epic Heroes: Dinner Talk for Champions (now available through 1stBooks), she offers a wealth of epic heroes from literature and the Bible to resurrect the age old nourishment of table talk.

McClung believes that in the bewildering journey called life, many people have wandered far from a forgotten oasis known as dinner table talk. She wrote this book to bring literary heroes from human heritage to the dinner table, offering families a theme for each week. While drawing heavily from the epic Lord of the Rings Trilogy, McClung also brings to life mighty characters from the Bible and literature, such as Moses, Abraham and others. The values from ancient literature are served up to reinstate the wonderful conversations that characterized the age before television.

"So, while you are heaping your children's plates with delicious food at their dinner time, quench their thirst with living water. If we never send their souls away hungry, someday they will be able to feed their children, too," McClung states.

McClung has studied typology and patterns of history for nearly 20 years, focusing particularly on the house of Israel. She has lived in Argentina, has investigated archaeological sites in Mexico and Central America and speaks Spanish as a second language. From 1984 to 1994, she taught religious and secular courses in her home to her teenaged children and other youths. In 1988, she began writing fiction to "awaken youth to their heritage and identity in Western Civilization," she says. After September 11, 2001, she created a website, www.epicworld.info, to promote family unity by reviving the tradition of dinner time conversation known also as "table talk." In 2002, she began offering resources from the Bible and epic literature that eventually became Epic Heroes, her first published work. She also has written a novel, entitled Remnant: A Tale of Lost Israel (coming soon from 1stBooks) and a musical by the same name to be performed in outdoor amphitheaters in 2004. She currently is working on her second novel, Birthright. She and her husband, Richard, have four children.
