'Garden of Words' Looks to Heal -- Author Hopes to Help Lost Souls Find their Way Through Poetry

SEATTLE, June 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Poet Ivy Rose Nightscales has created a book poetry that takes the reader into her "garden," taking an unbridled look at social injustice, addiction, loss, abandonment, rebirth, hope and redemption. In Garden of Words: Poetry and Other Writings for Fallen Women (now available through 1stBooks), Nightscales opens her heart in hopes of letting others know there is hope for the lost.

Nightscales seeks to inspire both seekers and those with broken hearts with her writings, which are lyrically melodic and captivating. She writes that this book is an emotional experience that readers can relate to.

She also writes that she understands what it is like to be a fallen woman, struggling with poverty, loss and addiction. She has been to extreme lows, only to be befriended when she was isolated and alone.

Her garden, enchanted and full of life experiences for the reader, includes a variety of flowers that represent people. They represent the emotions and thorns in life. Nestled in a theme of compassion, Nightscales work will branch out and help lost souls recover themselves, she hopes.

"Sweet Pea Rows": "Your child sits/In the middle of the sweet pea rows. /She smells the deep, rich, layer/shades/of forever browns./Sweet chocolate and beige/The O, my goodness smells of Mother Earth./And buttercups blaze in her hand/With yellow, golden, childhood dreams."

Nightscales was born in London, where she experienced the Blitz campaign. Her family immigrated to Canada at the age of 9. She moved to the United States at age 27. She was active in movements such as women's rights, civil rights and the movement against the war. As a single parent she completed school and graduated from Antioch University in 1982.
