2003 Philadelphia LGBT Pride Festival -- The Largest Celebration of Pride In Our Area, On Festival Pier At Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, June 3, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The 15th Annual LBGT Pride Festival, takes place on Sunday, June 8, 2002 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Festival Pier located at Spring Garden Street and Columbus Blvd. The master of ceremonies will be the colorful Henri David and co-host Edie Huggins of NBC-10.

The event begins with the official LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Pride Parade through Old City Philadelphia and leads to the celebration on Festival Pier at Penn's Landing, Spring Garden Street and Columbus Blvd. Actress, comedian, writer, producer Judy Gold will take to the stage at 4pm. Popular girl rock band, Betty is back by popular demand. The harmonizing, rocking pop trio, described as cross between the B52's, Veruca salt, Parliament, Funkadelic, will take the stage at 3:15 p.m. A special guest appearance by legendary children's television personality, Sally Starr, will be at 2:30 p.m.

This year's event will again include a special dance area featuring DJ Maria V and 2-steppin with June Bromley. There will also be a new Family Zone, sponsored the Rainbow Circle program of the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation. The Family Zone will feature no-cost mammograms from the Fox Chase Mobile Mammogram unit for woman over 40 without health insurance. Animal Welfare Association will also offer Adopt-A-Pet in the Family Zone.

The PrideDay festival includes music throughout the day with over 100 different LGBT organizations and groups distributing information about such issues as HIV awareness and health support. Networking opportunities are a great aspect of this festival, which creates support and outreach for this community.

Penn's Landing is Philadelphia's Waterfront district, running along Columbus Boulevard from Washington Avenue to Spring Garden Street.
