The Curse of Kali -- New Historical Romance Novel Set in British India During the 19th Century

EPSOM, England, June 3, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In the plush jungles and humid climate of the sub-continent of India, something sinister threatens the love of one young couple. The Curse of Kali (now available through 1stBooks) is the new historical romance by Audrey Blankenhagen.

Set in the mid-19th century, when the East India Company and the British Empire ruled India, a beautiful young Dr. Helen Forsythe travels to India to marry Sir Gavin French, the British resident at the court of a Muslim prince. Her love is deep for the charismatic French, yet she is disturbed by her husband's suspicious liaisons with a beautiful Goanese woman and the feeling that something sinister hangs over their lives.

Against the social whirl of the British living in the splendid isolation of the Raj, the "machinations" of a sinister "cult of the Goddess Kali" and the beauty and barbarity of the Indian scene, the two lovers yearn for love despite every obstacle. Involving that turbulent period of Indian unrest, the Indian Mutiny of 1857, Blankenhagen weaves a tale of blood, love, history, passion and intrigue.

Blankenhagen is "a child of the Raj." Many of her relatives served in British India either as civil administrators or in the British army. Educated at an English boarding school nestled at the foot of the Himalayas, she returned with her family to England when India gained its independence in 1947. She currently resides in "leafy Surrey near Epsom Downs, the home of the famous Derby, the blue riband of the English horse racing season," Blankenhagen says. The Curse of Kali is her first book.
