Independence Blue Cross Presents the Nation's Largest Islamic Festival on Festival Pier at Penn's Landing Part of the PECO Energy Multicultural Series


PHILADELPHIA, June 3, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Celebrate the Annual International Islamic Heritage Day Festival at Penn's Landing, Saturday, June 14, 2003, from 12 to 8 p.m. There will be a parade themed, "Unity in Diversity" starting at 11 a.m. at 13th and Spring Garden Street, ending with the festival at Penn's Landing's Festival Pier, located at Spring Garden Street and Columbus Boulevard.

This free event, presented by PECO Energy and the Islamic Cultural Preservation and Information Council (ICPIC), hosts a day of Islamic pride and features a wide variety of food, entertainment, and fun for an estimated crowd of over 5,000 people. Mayor John Street has been invited to salute the festivities with a warm welcome from the city and a proclamation recognizing Islamic Heritage Day.

The festival will feature entertainment on the main stage from 1 to 8 p.m., including performances by vocalist group Dar Es Salaam, vocalist Wali Ali and Suad El-Amin, jazz artists the Muslim Vanguard, the AICP's Mediah performance group, drill and karate demonstrations by World Champion U.P.K. Pasha Generals, an African Dance Ensemble, and other Muslim musicians and performers.

In addition to entertainment, there will be an all-day bazaar featuring crafts, ethnic foods, literature, and goods and services from all around the world. The children and family pavilion will have Quaranic recitals, face painting, clowns, arts & crafts, story telling, puppet shows, arcade games, a moon bounce, free giveaways, and other exciting games and activities for the family. Families can also take part in free health screenings as well as an educational holistic workshop in the Family Health Care Pavilion.
