The Vital Link Between Spirituality and Nursing Home Satisfaction -- New Book Discusses Spirituality and Fulfilled Life in Facility, Offers Activities for Residents

SOUTHBURY, Conn., June 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- For the millions of Americans in nursing homes, spirituality is the key to living a fulfilled life within a facility. In Linda A. Urbanski's new book Nursing Home Resident Satisfaction, The Spiritual Connection (now available through 1stBooks) she presents findings from raw data and offers ideas for activities and programs to conduct within a nursing home that will enhance a resident's connection to God.

The author, an experienced director of health care facilities for the elderly, explains positive and negative aspects of aging in order to show how a new person to a facility might respond to the change in environment. She outlines the study of 100 nursing home residents, interventions and resources to improve quality of life through the implementation of various religious programs and spiritual and social activities.

The author links spirituality with life satisfaction, a connection that can boost a person's ability to overcome physical and mental limitations. She hopes the material will be used to immediately improve the quality of life in nursing homes while providing demographic data and research findings linking a successful outlook on life with spirituality.

This book offers not only concrete data, but also human anecdotal information that can't be measured. It provides the reader insight into what's truly important in the lives of the aging population: what matters to them, what brings them joy and where their strength and hopes reside. It helps them better meet the challenges of living in a facility.

Urbanski is a licensed nursing home administrator in Connecticut. She is the president of the Health Care Information Network, a company that provides conferences, seminars, workshops and individual consultations for the purpose of improving resident quality of life and staff morale.
