Anoto, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y) and ReadSoft introduce Digital Pen and Paper solutions for the Pharmaceutical Industry

LUND, Sweden, June 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- CGE&Y, ReadSoft and Anoto (Other OTC:AOTOF) announce availability of digital pen and paper solutions for the pharmaceutical industry to improve the execution of clinical trials and other pharmaceutical industry processes. The solution will be delivered by CGE&Y in U.S., France, Switzerland, UK, Germany and the Nordic region.

The offering allows users to fill in data on a paper form with a digital pen. Thereafter, the handwritten text is sent, for instance, via bluetooth technology and a mobile phone to ReadSoft's automatic data capture software FORMS where it is recognized and interpreted. This makes it possible to start exchanging information with the back-end system. Based on core technologies from ReadSoft and Anoto, CGE&Y can offer integration services to create end-to-end solutions.

With digital pen and paper technology, not only is the cost of collecting and assembling the data reduced, it is also entered directly into the back end system. This means that data can be monitored as it progresses, enabling early decision making. The consequences are fewer mistakes, shorter clinical trials, and earlier awareness of quality problems.

"With this offering we provide end-to-end solutions that are built and deployed on leading technologies, while delivering measurable return on investment for pharmaceutical companies. It also demonstrates what the Anoto functionality is truly about -- an enabler for improving business critical operations," said Hans Torin, Global Director for Mobile Business at CGE&Y.

The first purchasers are expected to be companies needing rapid and accurate data entry. Examples are clinical trials and patient diaries, which are expensive and complex processes, involving lots of form-filling in different geographical locations.

"We see pharmaceutical industry applications as ideal for this solution and we anticipate a whole range of applications for this technology, said Orjan Johansson, CEO, Anoto. "The industry is highly dependent on paper-based documentation, but is looking for reliable and secure methods of transferring information from paper into more sophisticated electronic systems. Both CGE&Y and ReadSoft play important roles in making that happen."

"ReadSoft has a leading position when it comes to developing products for automatic data capture and with the digital pen we are now able to offer our customers truly mobile applications. The collaboration with CGE&Y and Anoto facilitates an end to end solution which offers substantial savings for users in the pharmaceutical industry", commented Jan Andersson, MD ReadSoft.

About Anoto AB

Anoto AB, the Swedish company that developed the technology, is currently creating a global de facto standard for digitally enhanced pen and paper. The primary benefit of Anoto functionality is that users can continue to use pen and paper as they always have, but with this new innovation in technology, all written information is simultaneously captured by a computer or server. Once the information exists as electronic data, it can be efficiently managed using the power of many different kinds of computerized applications. Anoto functionality, thereby, connects mankind's most preferred method of communication with the power and versatility of electronic systems. Anoto is a subsidiary to Anoto Group, listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, O-list, Attract 40, under the ticker ANOT.
