The Sting of Chance -- New Thriller Tells How One Man's Chance Meeting Throws Him into the World of Drugs, Fraud, Murder

MOBILE, Ala., June 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Dan Riley hops on a state highway out of Mobile, Ala. Headed for Cullman, Ala., he's on his way to celebrate the death of a man who caused him much grief a decade before. What was going to be a simple trip turned into an encounter that gets him deeply involved in the dark world of every-thing from drug smuggling to murder. In his new suspense thriller, The Cowkiller (now available through 1stBooks), author Ted Dority tells Dan's twisted, unexpected journey down a dangerous path.

A few miles outside of Mobile, traffic is halted because of a car accident. An 18-wheeler, a Ford pickup towing a stock trailer and a 740 BMW are involved. Dan innocently stops to help the injured, but when he does, he fatefully meets Rita Coalwell. Meeting this knockout blonde from Pensacola, Fla., will change his life forever.

Seeped in intrigue and suspense, The Cowkiller tells of Dan's exposure to drug smuggling, money laundering, insurance fraud, arson, identity changes and murder. Befriending Rita almost costs him his life. Throughout the novel, Dan associates his emotional and physical pains to a sting he received early in life. The excruciating pain caused by this "Cowkiller," a colorful wingless wasp, haunts his mind.

The punches of drama keep the reader enthralled until the final pages by weaving an intricate, well-written action novel.

Dority is currently retired and lives in Mobile with his wife, Nita. After attending the University of Mississippi High School, he attended Sunflower Junior College (Delta Junior College) and the University of Mississippi. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force. He later was successful in private business. This is his first book.
