Life Lessons From a Man Who Has Lived Them -- New Memoir Offers Story of One Man's Life and His Advice on Living It Well

LONDON, June 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- George Papadopoulos has lived a riveting life, has traveled the globe and worn many hats. In his new memoir, How To Survive on 24 Hours A Day (now available through 1stBooks), he presents food for thought that he hopes will help readers live life to the fullest.

A well-traveled man who spent years working as a maritime troubleshooter, Papadopoulos flew around the world to shipping disasters. Born in the diverse city of Alexandria, Egypt in 1926, he attended the local Greek, French and English schools growing up. After the war, he enlisted in the Royal Navy at 18 years old, and was transferred to Haifa, Palestine for training. He served 10 years in the Merchant Navy until obtaining the rank of chief engineer, eventually starting a profitable shipping business that failed with the oil crisis of 1973-74.

He spent his years as an entrepreneur, linguist, yachtsman, scuba diver, naturalist, prisoner, rich man, poor man, philosopher and now author.

By examining his life under a microscope, Papadopoulos has crafted a book rich in emotion and thought. Like life, it is full of laughter and tears. He hopes people will understand that life should be lived to the fullest and that they should do everything in their power to make dreams come true. Understanding such basic ideas will help everyone survive 24 hours a day.

The author describes his book in this way: "This study involves different personal experiences over several years and may help to guide you through life. It may set a direction which could point you to your desired destination. Life is for living. Take time. . . to live."

Papadopoulos has lived in England for 50 years. He and his late wife, Sarah, have four children and seven grandchildren.
