LOS ANGELES, June 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today's resolution by the House of Representatives brings the fight against ALS to the national forefront by recognizing Lou Gehrig's 100th birthday as an enduring symbol of the courage displayed by those who are battling this horrific disease.

The ALS Association is grateful to Congressman Engel for spearheading this awareness initiative that reflects the commitment of the 108th Congress to support cutting-edge research to find a cure for ALS. We also thank Congressmen Michael Bilirakis of Florida, Lee Terry of Nebraska, and other co-sponsors who have demonstrated their commitment to this important effort.
